CPIC service available to everyone

National stolen vehicle databse

The Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), operated on behalf of all the country's policing agencies, by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, has been a vital search tool for justice authorities for over 40 years.

Access to the data is highly restricted to properly constituted authorities, but the stolen vehicle registry is available to all. Here is the message on the CPIC web site:

"The public can use this site to help keep their neighbourhoods safe by checking and reporting suspicious vehicles. Use the Search button to enter our Stolen Vehicle & Bicycle page. Here you can enter licence plates, VIN numbers, or serial numbers to verify for stolen vehicles or bicycles."

Try it. Advise your friends and customers. Here is the link:

How are we doing?

The VSA annual consumer survey at the recent Vancouver International Auto Show mirrored the results of the 2007 survey. Key results were:

  • 40 percent of those surveyed indicated their most recent sales transaction was excellent and 50 percent indicated it was satisfactory, while 10 percent reported their experience as unsatisfactory. Franchise dealers received a 95% satisfactory or excellent rating, while independent dealerships were at 88%.
  • 77 percent of those reporting an unsatisfactory purchasing experience had purchased their vehicle at a new vehicle dealership. This figure is roughly proportionate to the B.C. market share.
  • 50 percent of those reporting an unsatisfactory sales experience had purchased a new vehicle, which is a higher number than the actual new car percentage of total vehicle sales in the province. However, that percentage may have been skewed due to the auto show location and its unique audience.
  • Slightly more males than females, as a proportion of those surveyed, reported unsatisfactory transactions.
