Issue #14 - 2009
Convey your concerns to your representatives: Salesperson & Motorcycle Dealers Advisory Committees
Two important industry advisory committees that report directly to the VSA Board of
Directors will be meeting in the immediate future and they would welcome input from
any of you who have issues to discuss. The committees are:
- The Motorcycle Dealers Advisory Committee - meeting September 25.
- The Salesperson Advisory Committee (representing all licensed motor vehicle salespeople in B.C.) - meeting October 8.
(The committee members contact information follows. They have asked the VSA to
encourage those they represent to inform them of ideas and concerns.)
These committees were created by the VSA Board
of Directors because it was believed these sectors
of the industry were under-represented in
policy-making. Historically, the only link
salespeople had was through their dealers, whose
business concerns were not always consistent
with their employees' priorities.
With respect to motorcycle dealers, unlike the
New Car Dealers Association, the Automotive
Retailers Association and the Recreation Vehicle
Dealers Association, their small industry sector
was not assigned representation on the VSA
Board.
A member of the VSA Board attends as chair of
these committee meetings. Some members of the
VSA management team attend as well.
During its last meeting (late 2008), the Motorcycle
Dealers discussed salesperson certification
courses, curbers, safety, unregistered sales, the
lack of a motorcycle history resource, ICBC,
cross-border sales and legislation, among other
issues. Key items on the agenda for September 25
will be updated advertising guidelines, a standard
vehicle purchasing agreement and committee
communications.
The agenda is not yet set for the Salesperson
Advisory Committee meeting October 8. This is an
opportunity for everybody with concerns to
contact a committee member to ensure that their
issue is raised. In its 2008 meeting, this committee
dealt with myriad issues: the certification courses
and fees, the publication of VSA compliance
orders, the lack of public awareness of the VSA,
vehicle damage declarations and communications.
This coming meeting is certain to also address
curbers, the new advertising guidelines, the
standardized contract and other current issues.
Some of these have been raised by veteran sales
professionals at the Level II Salesperson
Certification Course classes. Over 400 have now
completed this workshop-style interactive course.
