WARNING: FAKE ID ALERT (BCDL) BC DRIVER LICENSE FRAUD
 

Please be on alert for fake identification during the purchase process. Recently the Downtown Kia dealership experienced an attempt to use a fake BC Driver’s License during the purchase process.

Recent Scenario::

A customer visited the Downtown Kia dealership early in July looking to purchase a vehicle. The Finance Manager submitted the customer’s credit application. At that time, the customer did not have a BC ID.

The same customer returned on July 28th to finalize the purchase. Once again, the Dealership asked the customer for their Driver’s License. The customer did not have it with them, but promised to send a copy through email. The customer sent a copy through email as promised, however, the Downtown Kia representatives thought it looked odd. To ensure legitimacy of the driver’s license, the Dealership representatives asked their ICBC broker to verify the BC Driver’s License. The ICBC Agent was able to verify that the License presented was not legitimate. The Vancouver Police Department was called to the Dealership and the officers worked with the ICBC agent to discover that the license originally belonged to a deceased woman. The customer was arrested.

Examine the ID carefully:

• Polycarbonate, durable design, you will notice a "tinny" sound if dropped on a hard surface
• Raised laser etching of the name on the surface of the card
• Miniature/Micro-printing throughout the face of the card
• Fine line background and security spiraling to make photo substitution difficult
• A slightly overlapping raised etched signature to make photo substitution difficult
• Colours that blend across the front of the card
• A "ghost" image with your year of birth on the right hand side that can be felt by touch
• Licenses issued in February 2020, and onward, will have the silhouette of a BC provincial animal.
